Q: Is Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre responsible for booking the Minister?
A: We will provide contact information for local Ministers and Justices of the Peace. As these are personal arrangements the actual booking should be made directly by the couple to ensure the service meets their needs.
Q: Are we able to decorate the reception room?
A: Weddings are a highly personal event. It’s our pleasure to work with you to ensure your own style and preferences are portrayed through the décor. We only ask that your refrain from using anything that will puncture the walls/ceiling surfaces such as thumb tacks, pins, hooks, etc. If you require professional decorating, we will be happy to provide you with some trusted specialists to contact. Please note we reserve the right to refuse the use of any decorations should there be a potential for damage to the property or fire/health risk.
Q: Does Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre have any additional planning resources?
A: We have a list of local trusted vendors that would be pleased to work with you. We would be happy to share this list with you when you are ready to plan your wedding details. Our team has also hosted countless weddings and it is our pleasure to assist however we can.
Q: What kind of meals does Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre offer?
A: Our culinary team will do their absolute best to accommodate your guests’ diet restrictions and ensure your menu is unforgettable. Advising us of dietary restrictions and/or allergies in advance will allow for a seamless meal service. We offer waiter-served and buffet meals; both are available with a wide selection of menu choices. We can also create a memorable gala reception for you and your guests. Please be advised that all food and beverage must be provided by Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, with the exception of the wedding cake.
Q: Do you offer a children’s menu?
A: Yes, we offer a special menu for children under the age of 12. We are always thrilled to welcome families to our resort and our culinary team offers several yummy, kid-approved options. Children are also able to enjoy the “grown up” menu at half price. Either of these options may be arranged when planning the details of your special day.
Q: Can I bring my own food or wine?
A: All food and beverage must be purchased through Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre. (Excluding the wedding cake)
Q: Are honeymoon packages available?
A: Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre offers honeymoon packages tailored for any couple. Stay in one of our two-story oceanfront chalets, or relax in one of our comfortable guestrooms. Enjoy a side by-side private massage in our deluxe couple’s spa suite, complete with double Jacuzzi. Whether your idea of romance includes shopping in picturesque Mahone Bay and Lunenburg or a sailing tour of the islands, we can customize a package that’s perfect for you.
Q: Are we required to rent guestrooms to have our wedding reception in your banquet rooms?
A: There is a minimum guestroom requirement and it varies depending on which banquet room you use. These minimums are flexible depending on the day of the week and time of the year. For example, if you would like to have either Bluenose room (A or B), your accommodations block must actualize 40 room nights in total and all accommodations are a 2-night minimum booking. You must guarantee the minimum guestroom block and if the minimum is not actualized, the wedding client is responsible for any remaining rooms. Do our guests receive a discount on accommodation rates?
Our accommodation rates fluctuate according to variables such as occupancy, time of year, etc. We want to accommodate all of your guests and are happy to commit to an accommodations block with competitive group rates.
Q: How do I book accommodations for my guests?
A: Rooms must be reserved by your guests up to 90 days in advance of arrival at which time we will review your reservations with you and release for resale the guestrooms that have not be reserved by your guests. Any subsequent reservations will be accepted on an availability basis only. Group rates will not be guaranteed after the room block release date. We will work closely with your guests on an individual basis to ensure their bookings are customized.
Q: Does Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre require a deposit?
A: Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre will require an advance non-refundable deposit of $2000.00 to be returned with the signed contract to confirm the space request. A second non-refundable deposit of $2000.00 is required 6 months prior to the date of the wedding. A final deposit of 50% of estimated revenue is required 60 days prior. The balance is due 1 week prior to the wedding date.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: If cancellation occurs all of your deposit will be forfeited. If cancellation occurs less than 60 days prior to the date of your arrival as outlined, 50% of the estimated food and beverage will apply. If cancellation occurs less than 30 days prior to the date of your arrival as outlined, 100% of the estimated food and beverage will apply.
Q: Is there a minimum food and beverage requirement?
A: Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre requires a minimum food purchase of $38.95 per person, prior to taxes and gratuities. This minimum can be achieved through a reception or dinner. Should you wish to have a bar, there is a minimum revenue requirement of $400.00 prior to taxes and gratuities. If you are unable to meet this minimum a bartender fee of $75.00 plus taxes will apply.
Q: Do you charge gratuity on top of meal prices?
A: A gratuity of 16% is added to all food and beverage items that are to be billed to the master account.
